GEEZ! It’s nearly been a year since I last participated in the Diva’s challenge and since I posted something on my blog. But I guess the Bi-Zen-Tennial celebration is the perfect occasion to come back. *giggles* Congrats and thank you Laura for your beautiful blog, your inspirations and for letting us all being a part of your life. *hugs*
I chose Bales for my entry. I just love this pattern! I haven’t tried many variations yet but I like to use it again and again and well…here we go:
I’m trying to participate weekly again. So far so good. ^^ But before I’m telling you about finding my word I wanna say thank you for all your couraging words during my last posts concerning my dad’s health. It really meant a lot! My dad is doing okay so far. He had his surgery and he was very weak for weeks. The docs cut out one of his pulmonary lobes and further tests said that it was a malignant tumor. So he needed chemo therapy. He already had a few appointments and they are very exhausting for him. One treatment always contains two appointments where he gets infusions, one with 6 hours and one with 2 hours. BUT even though he feels weak and sick sometimes he’s not as sick and bothered with side effects as we feared he might be. He’s not losing his hair (he was afraid that he’s losing his beard) and he’s able to eat properly most of the time. He lost about 30 kg until now so his overweight is disappearing more and more and regardless of the illness he looks pretty good. We’re so relieved! We had a nice Christmas at our place and my dad was so happy that I made his cutlet with LOADS of onions. ^^ We played some games and exchanged presents and I drove them home around 9.30 p.m.
We also celebrated New Year’s Eve with them. My mum made a yummy raclette and I prepared some presents for a very funny Bingo game. So fun!
But now back to the challenge. 😀 I read all the words in Ali Edwards post and I wanted to go with appreciate. I felt though that there were more words that I could use so I wrote them all down and had 9 in the end. I made 9 pieces of paper, wrote one word on each piece and put them all face down on my desk. I let my left hand float above the pieces (maybe some of you know this method for drawing tarot cards) to see which one would draw my attention the most and ended up with two. When I turned them over I had to laugh really hard. I’m working on myself for a few years now – sometimes more, sometimes less and sometimes it’s easier and sometimes it’s really hard. But no matter what I do and what I try I always end up with the same or similar topic: myself, my well being, my self confidence. So which word did I draw? SELF and the second one was BEGIN. These two words belong together in my opinion so I will keep them both in mind. But for the challenge I decided to go with SELF.
It’s already late so I don’t have much time…I hope you all had a good start into the new year!? It seems it’s going to be better and I’m actually looking forward to it and I’ll try to be more positive.
Long time no see…I tried this weeks’s challenge to distract myself. My dad had his surgery on Wednesday. It went well but he’s weak and he can’t breathe properly at the moment. I went to see him on Friday but I guess I will wait two or three more days until I go again. It broke my heart to see him lying there and not be able to say what he wants. We have to wait for a final result from the laboratory to see if he needs chemo now or if tumor they cut out was all for now.
I think the challenge was fun. I never tried anything like it. I started off with the wrong Micron but once I switched to a smaller one I saw the whole thing coming together. ^^
This week was tough. My Dad got diagnosed with a tumor in his lung and even though we’re waiting for an answer by the insurance company for a special test to find out if there are more tumors in his body…I have problems to cope with it. He’s actually feeling okay but I just couldn’t find a way to wrap my head around it. Most time of the day I’m okay and then out of the blue I’m just not. Maybe that’s part of the reason why I had problems to do the challenge. I tried a few different things and I like woking with soft colours and patterns…I prepared two postcard sized cards and painted them with China ink (?). I let them dry until today because I didn’t have the urge to draw those last few days. I’m okay with the result but I think it would have been better to work with if I had some watercolor pencils. The China ink is probably too wet and so the shading didn’t work so well.
Well…thanks but no thanks. I think I never worked this long on a tile. It looks good – I admit that – but it’s just too elaborate. I just wanted to finish it and that’s not the way to do it. So…great pattern but simply not one of my favorites.
When I read that this weeks challenge was to create a Monotangle with Bales with my non-dominant hand I thought „GEEZ…how can anyone recognize that it’s supposed to be Bales?“. But I wanted to give it a try. And guess what! I was surprised myself how good it turned out. I decided to use a larger and a smaller version to see how I could manage to draw bold and thin lines with my left hand. I’m quite satisfied and maybe I try that again once in a while. ^^
